Translation Mode

Translation Mode helps you translate content between English and French. It supports both short text and full document translation, while maintaining security and preserving formatting.

Whether you’re translating a quick note, a public announcement, or a formatted document, Translation Mode provides a structured experience to help you do it accurately and efficiently.

About Translation Mode​

Translation Mode includes two translation options:

  • Translate text — For short sections of content such as emails, summaries, or notes
  • Translate documents — For full files including Word, PDF, Excel, and PowerPoint, with layout and formatting preserved

These two services use different AI models, each optimized for its specific task. Document translation also benefits from being trained on GNB translations and a glossary of terms, which helps improve accuracy for GNB-specific content like department names, program titles, and internal language.

Choose from text or document translation.

Translate text​

To translate a short section of content:

  1. Click New chat in the left sidebar
  2. Select Translate text
  3. In the text field, enter the content you’d like to translate
  4. Add a simple instruction such as:
    • “Translate this to French”
    • “Please translate the following into English”

You’ll receive a bilingual response that you can review and continue refining. Use this for general content like instructions, summaries, announcements, or other plain text materials.

Translate documents​

To translate a full file and preserve formatting:

  1. Click New chat
  2. Select Translate document

You’ll be taken to the document translation screen, where you’ll see the message:

Supported file types:​

  • Word (.docx)
  • PowerPoint (.pptx)
  • Excel (.xlsx)
  • PDF (.pdf)

Limits:​

  • Max file size: 500 MB
  • Max pages: 500

Upload your file​

You can:

  • Drag and drop a file directly onto the upload area
  • Or click Choose a document to browse your computer and select a file

Once uploaded, you’ll see the option to:

  • Translate document now
  • Cancel

In the top-right corner, select your target language:

  • Translate to: English
  • Translate to: French

Complete the translation​

After you click Translate document now, you’ll see:
“Translating your document. This may take a few minutes.”

Please stay on this page until the translation is complete to avoid losing your progress.

Once finished, you’ll see: Translation complete. You can then download your translated file.

Important: Download the translated document immediately. For security reasons, both the uploaded and translated files will be deleted when you leave the page.

Next steps​

  • Review your translation for accuracy and formatting
  • Submit to the Translation Bureau for review where required
  • To translate another document, either upload a new file or click New chat
