Understanding AI limitations
ChatGNB is a powerful tool, but it’s important to understand what it can and can’t do. Like all generative AI, it produces responses based on patterns in its training data—not firsthand knowledge, reasoning, or human judgment.
It can sound confident and still be wrong
ChatGNB may generate responses that look polished but are factually incorrect, outdated, or misleading. This is known as AI hallucination.
Example: It may misquote legislation, incorrectly summarize policies, or invent references that don’t exist.
Users are responsible for verifying the accuracy, completeness, and appropriateness of all AI-generated content. Always cross-check key information against trusted sources and review it carefully before using or sharing it.
It doesn’t know what’s true or false
The AI doesn’t “understand” content or check it for accuracy. It predicts the most likely next word based on your prompt and its training data. This means:
- It won’t know if a claim is unsupported
- It can generate biased or incomplete explanations
- It may leave out critical context or nuance
It doesn’t know current events
ChatGNB is not connected to the internet and does not have access to real-time or post-training information.
The current AI model was trained on data up to October 2023. It does not know about events, developments, or publications released after that date.
If your work involves current information (e.g., recent announcements, legislation, or timelines), you must provide that information in your prompt.
It doesn’t have access to government systems
ChatGNB can’t access your files, shared drives, or any internal databases. It only works with what you enter into the chat. If you want it to analyze or rewrite content, you’ll need to paste that content into your prompt.
It can’t apply judgment or values
AI lacks empathy, ethics, and lived experience. It can’t assess tone in a sensitive situation or decide what’s appropriate for a particular audience.
It is not a substitute for human review, especially in communications, policy, or service delivery.
While ChatGNB is a powerful tool, it should never be used to make decisions independently. It cannot weigh context, apply professional judgment, or understand the broader implications of a recommendation.
All decisions are the responsibility of the user. You are accountable for how you interpret and use its outputs and liable for any actions taken as a result. ChatGNB is intended to support your work—not replace human reasoning, expertise, or creativity.
